Shiny New, But Old – FOX 36 of yesterday!

In Defence of Yesterday’s Hero Fork - Spare a thought for the FOX 36 of yesterday. Once the crown jewel of trail and enduro builds, the benchmark, the “yeah bro, that’s a sick fork” standard. But then... a press release happened.

Now? There’s a new FOX 36. With a shinier crown, a fresh damper, slightly more “low speed this” and “high speed that.” And just like that, the current FOX 36 became the former FOX 36.

Never mind that the FOX 36 of yesterday still comes spec’d on brand-new bikes. Never mind that it’s still buttery smooth, incredibly stiff, and crushes everything from Queenstown loam to Rotorua roots.

Nope. Internet comment sections have spoken:

“Oh, it’s got the old 36… that’s a shame.”

The Tragedy of the “Now Outdated” Fork

What changed? Not much.
What really changed? Our perception.

The FOX 36 of yesterday didn’t suddenly start underperforming. It didn’t lose its Kashima mojo overnight. It just got quietly bumped down the fashion ladder by its newer, slightly cooler spawn.

And yet, here at Day Zero, we say: long live the “shiny old.”
